Congrats, Merilee! Co-founder of the Leadville Race Series awarded Sportswoman of Colorado.

When you cross the finish line, it will be Merilee who will be among the first to congratulate you and hang that hard-earned medal around your neck. And now it’s our turn to congratulate our friend and co-founder of the Leadville Race Series (with Ken Chlouber), because Merilee was just this month honored with the Sportswoman of Colorado award for her contributions to sport.

Merilee, who served as race director from 1993 to 2010, continues to be an important fixture at Leadville Race Series events, supporting our athletes with finish-line hugs, cheers and sometimes even joining in their tears. She is also a co-founder of the Leadville Trail 100 Legacy Foundation, which seeks to improve life in Lake County. In his nomination of Merilee for the award, Ken remarked that one of her greatest contributions has been her heart. Her ongoing dedication has been an inspiration to many, as she embodies the founding spirit of the Leadville Race Series.
